Publicity

Make the most of your energy education outreach program with some easy means for publicity.

Before the event

  • Publicize your planned activities in your section newsletter and on your section web site, if you have one.
  • Send a broadcast email to your section (or appropriate section members) letting them know about your event and need for volunteers (if applicable).
  • Announce your event at your SPE meetings.
  • Contact Energy4me with the details so we can add it to Energy4me.org, if appropriate.
  • Send a press release about your event to invite your local media to attend. See a sample press release from the SPE Aberdeen Section
  • Send the press release to the schools/organizations receiving the benefits to publish in their newsletters.
  • If students will be photographed at your event, use the Minor Photo Release form to obtain permission. It is sufficient to have the principal or classroom teacher sign the form for the students. If your event is large enough and you have the funding, you may want to hire a photographer.

During the Event

  • Write some key notes such as attendance numbers, special activities within your event, and special guests.
  • Get a few positive quotes and (permission to use them) from event participants
  • Take high resolution photos.
  • Have fun!

After the Event

  • Draft another press release with final numbers and details about your event. Include some quotes.
  • Send press release to:
  • Publish an article in your section newsletter and on your section web site. Be sure to thank the volunteers for their efforts!
  • Share event details with members at your next section meeting. Recognize the volunteers.
