Curriculum Description

Undergraduate: NTNU offers no B.Sc. degrees in engineering

5-year M.Sc.: 5-year programs in Petroleum Engineering and in Petroleum Geoscience. The two first years are common for the two programs with emphasis on geology geophysics, math, chemistry, physics, computing, fluid mechanics. At the end of the second year, students elect program and specialization (drilling, production, reservoir, seismics, geology, petrophysics). A semester project is required in the 9th semester, and in the 10th semester students complete their M.Sc. theses.

2-year M.Sc.: Students may enter directly into the 4th year of the 5-year M.Sc. program based on an international recognized B.Sc. degree. Following specializations may be elected: drilling, production, reservoir, seismics, geology, petrophysics. A semester project is required in the 3rd semester, and in the 10th semester students complete their M.Sc. theses.

Ph.D.: A 3-year program of courses and research. Normally, the first year is spent on courses and the next two years on thesis research. Areas of specialization are drilling, production, reservoir, seismics, geology, petrophysics.

Program Admission Requirements

Undergraduate: NA

5-year M.Sc.: Norwegian High School or equivalent

2-year M.Sc.: Internationally recognized B.Sc. degree in Petroleum Engineering/Petroleum Geoscience or equivalent (a limited no. of students is admitted every year). TOEFL of 500 (Computer based test 170) or IELTS of 5.0 is required. Some scholarships are available.

Ph.D.: M.Sc. degree or equivalent with GPA of at least B.
