Accreditation
The 5-years basic level day program in Petroleum Engineering is substantially accredited
by the EAC of ABET. The last ABET evaluation was done in December 2002.
Curriculum Description
Undergraduate:
The petroleum engineering program at Kuwait University is designed to provide
Students with a modern petroleum engineering education with proper balance between
fundamentals and practice. This is accomplished through the design, drilling and
operations of well systems, and the integrated management of hydrocarbon reservoirs.
The graduates are prepared for life-long learning and should be capable of being
productive contributors for the oil gas industry.
Masters:
The Department of Petroleum Engineering (Colleage of Engineering and Petroleum) offers a Master of Science Program in Petroleum Engineering. Part-time and full-time students are admitted to this program. Research requirements include either thesis or non-thesis options. The program is a balanced combination of the theoretical and practical aspects of petroleum engineering with enough flexibility to allow for interaction with the ever developing sciences and technologies and with the changing needs of the region. The program is designed to deepen and broaden the scientific and engineering skills in one of the following two areas:
- Reservoir Management
- Drilling Engineering
The general research interests in the department area focused in these two areas.
Program Admission Requirements
Undergraduate:
Graduates of public high-school programs with a minimum score of 75% or equivalent
score from accredited private high-school programs are admitted to the petroleum
engineering department. All students applying for admission to the program should
show competence in English and Mathematics by passing a placement exam in both
subjects.
Masters:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or closely related
field conferred by Kuwait University or by another academic institution recognized
by Kuwait University. - A minimum overall grade point average of 2.67 points on a scale of 4.00 or its
equivalent, and an average in the field of specialization of less than 3.00 points on
a scale of 4.00 or its equivalent. - A good command of English Language.
- A written consent from the place of work confirming that there is no objection to joining the graduate program for employed applicant.
- The applicant fulfill any additional conditions approved by the colleage of Graduate School and required by the program to which he/she wants to join, including any additional courses.
