Curriculum Description

Masters:

Petroleum Engineering – The aim of the course is to extend the skills developed at undergraduate level and augment them with specialised courses relevant to Petroleum Engineers. The successful graduates are in a position to participate in the Industry immediately, and are in strong demand worldwide.

The course was established in 1975 based on the industry preference for a 12 month programme for graduate engineers and scientists. It quickly became recognised as an important route into Petroleum Engineering and annually attracts applications from more than 200 students, from which a class of 40 to 60 is selected.

Entrants to the course will normally have a good honours degree in engineering or a relevant science discipline such as geology, physics, chemistry or mathematics. The general selection criteria are ability and suitability to the industry. In addition to academic qualifications, experience, personality and motivation are also taken into consideration.

The Institute endeavours to arrange financial support for students on the course and negotiates annually for industrial scholarships which are allocated following interviews at the end of June. Students are also encouraged to discuss sponsorship directly with companies.
